If you live in the US, you probably take it for granted that you can get access to quality maternal health care when you need it. We know that if we need medical care, that it will be done in a safe, clean environment. Unfortunately, women in other parts of the world are not so lucky.
Did you know that every 2 minutes, a woman dies from preventable causes due to either pregnancy or childbirth? That is such a travesty!
I had all 3 of my children naturally, drug-free and with no medical interventions. Just good ol’ going into labor and pushing a baby out stories. My first child was born in a birthing tub at an independant birthing facility. My second two children were born at home in a birthing tub. If you like birth stories, you will want to read my Fast, Full Moon Home Water Birth of My Third Child. Everything went, well, perfectly.
I feel blessed to have had three amazing, wonderful, empowering experiences. I felt safe knowing that I had everything in place to be able to go to a hospital if the need did arise during my pregnancy or births. Sadly, in other parts of the world, many women do not have that luxury and can not get access to simple things like a sterile nasal aspirator or hygienic pads.

Improving Maternal Health Care
The Cigna Foundation has partnered with Samahope to help improve the outcomes of childbirth and improve maternal health care.
